Rumor: Alfa Romeo to celebrate 110 years with an all-new car launch

The Italian sports car manufacturer celebrates its 110th birthday on June 24, 2020. Rumor has it that the company will be revealing a new production vehicle then – either a GT or a mini-SUV.

The former looks quite unlikely. Alfa Romeo did announce two hybrid cars based on the iconic GTV and 8C models in the summer of 2018, but had to reconsider its initial plans after studying the market. Financial difficulties led it to shift the focus from sports cars to the more mass-market oriented models.

Chances look good that Alfa Romeo will come to this year’s Geneva IMS with a production sample of its Tonale SUV (shown on the photos and the video here). As for the rumored new SUV, it will probably come based on the CMP architecture of the Peugeot 2008, which the company now has access to thanks to the FCA-PSA alliance. The newcomer will likely phase out the long-outdated Giulietta hatchback.

Alfa Romeo’s third SUV is expected to hit the market in 2022 with an all-electric powertrain as an option.
