Successor of the Citroen C4 Cactus gets caught on camera

Citroen CMO Xavier Peugeot said last summer that the C4 Cactus would be discontinued soon, with a brand-new model underway to take its place. Looks like these are its first images.

The new car will share the technical components with the Peugeot 208 and 2008 and will not be marketed as a crossover/SUV like its predecessor. It will drop the ‘Cactus’ from the name and ship without the AirBumps body panels.

This is in line with the change of direction that Citroen started with the Cactus in 2017. The facelift version of the Cactus was officially moved from SUV into hatchback category, and the manufacturer started shipping it without the off-road armor.

The vehicle depicted here is most likely electric (note the missing exhaust pipes and the sticker on the rear right window mentioning a li-ion battery). The long-wheelbase CMP platform that the original Cactus was based upon was designed for all kinds of cars, including electric ones. The new Peugeot e-208 and e-2008 use the same chassis.

The successor to the C4 Cactus line should celebrate its official premiere later this year, but the date remains unannounced.
