Cadillac to unveil a mid-size e-SUV in April

The statement was made by Cadillac CEO Steve Carlisle, who provided no further details. Hence, fan theories began to spread on the subject.

Cadillac did show us an SUV prototype called simply ‘EV Concept’ a year ago, which you can see on the photos and in the video here. This one was officially scheduled for 2023, though, so we don’t expect it to premiere any sooner.

The second-generation XT5 is another candidate. The SUV only went through a facelift in 2019, and should become all-electric in its third iteration planned for 2022 or thereabouts. Still, the current generation might as well receive a purely electric powertrain ahead of schedule.

Whatever the actual case, the car will enter production at the Detroit-Hamtramck factory where General Motors produces its other EVs: the GMC Hummer EV and the Cruise Origin.

The venue remains likewise unknown. While the New York International Auto Show launches on April 8, 2020, a possibility remains that Cadillac will arrange a special event just for the new EV.

Cadillac’s official development strategy involves switching to electric power completely before 2030. As for the Escalade SUV, reports say it might go all-electric in the current generation.
