Reports: VW ID.3 production halted over 300 software issues discovered daily

At the worst times, Volkswagen AG engineers used to find around 300 errors in the software code of the company’s unreleased ID.3 EV, multiple media sources are reporting. If the trend continues, we won’t be seeing the car until mid-2021.

According to the reports, the main issue lies in the hastily written underlying software architecture of the ID.3. Different modules of the complex system struggle to operate in perfect sync with one another, causing the so-called ‘race conditions’ and other errors. Over 10,000 employees are said to be working on resolving these issues right now.

Despite what looks like a whole army of VW experts tasked with ironing out the software troubles, chances are there that the company ultimately decides to scrap the current implementation and redo it from scratch, which would delay the ID.3 market launch by at least one full year. Earlier estimations had put the release timeframe closer to the summer of 2020.
