Car Tuning

The Brabus 800 Adventure XLP pickup is a Mercedes G-Class gone rogue

Enter another one of Brabus’ unhinged projects, a Mercedes-AMG G 63 turned into a pickup truck. If you are thinking, “That’s one crazy big project to complete!” you are entirely correct.

To accommodate the truck bed, the SUV received nearly 70 centimeters (2.3 feet) of added framework. The result is a car 5.31 meters (17.42 ft.) long, with a stainless-steel bed bottom and carbon-fiber walls.

Suspension enhancements and new 22-inch wheels enabled raising the improvised truck by 49 mm (1.9 inches). Further mods included a front bumper with a winch, an expedition rack, a roof-mounted light bar, fender flares, a hood with a massive motor dome, a valve-based exhaust system, and a Wingcopter aerial drone capable of following the car at max. 240 km/h (150 mph) for 120 km (75 miles).

The engine never stayed stock, either. Brabus has found a way to squeeze 800 hp (596 kW) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) out of the stock 4.0 V8, thanks to which the truck can sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.8 seconds. The top speed had to be clamped at 210 km/h (130 mph), though, allegedly due to the excessively high center of gravity and large wheels.

The Brabus 800 Adventure XLP will eventually go on sale priced starting from €389,831, but the First Edition Batch will come at a hefty premium over that amount (€575,630). The Geneva show copy – which will be offered for sale, too – sports a number of further exterior and interior improvements and commands a formidable €666,386 price tag.
