Mercedes-Benz posts ‘spy pics’ of its EQA SUV

Previously leaked spy photos of multiple Mercedes-Benz EV development mules, including those of the EQA, showed that the company was busy testing its electric tech in the North. Today, Mercedes revealed official photos of the abovementioned car.

The tests are underway in northern Sweden. The Mercedes engineering crew tries to establish how well the batteries can hold their charge at freezing temperatures, and whether comfort is assured for all passengers. The ice and snow under the wheels provide ample opportunity to test safety systems.

The German carmaker obviously wants to keep us guessing what to expect from the new EQA in terms of the exterior design. That said, we would be very surprised if the EV came out with more than just the fake grille, new headlights and wheels to tell it from the GLA SUV it is based upon.

The powertrain stays a true mystery, though, with no sure guesses at this point.

The Mercedes-Benz EQA should debut later in the year, and the production should begin at an unspecified Daimler AG factory in 2021. The EQB - the electric counterpart of the GLB – should also come out that year.
