Changan reveals E-Rock specs, launch timeframe

Following the initial introduction of its CS55 E-Rock SUV at the 2019 Auto Guangzhou show in November, Chinese automaker Changan has released the first official specs.

The electric off-roader was originally meant to ship in January-May 2020, but the company now says it will hit the showrooms in June.

Compared to the Changan CS55 Plus it is based upon – which is itself a more up-to-date version of the original CS55 – the E-Rock sports a solid faux grille at the front end, which is painted to match the body. The fender inserts are now blue and the exhaust tips are gone. Other than that, the EV looks exactly like its gas-powered predecessor.

The exterior dimensions are as follows: length – 4,515 mm (14.81 ft.), width – 1,860 mm (6.1 ft.), height – 1,690 mm (5.54 ft.), wheelbase – 2,650 mm (8.69 ft.). In the cabin, blue ornamental inserts in the front doors and the dashboard are the only added bits.

The SUV packs one electric motor rated at 218 hp (163 kW), a tangible improvement over the ICE version with its 156 hp (116 kW). The NEDC-rated driving range amounts to 605 kilometers (375 miles).

The Changan CS55 E-Rock is the second electric crossover vehicle on the manufacturer’s lineup after the subcompact-sized CS15. The latter ships in two variants: E-Pro (163 hp / 122 kW, 401 km / 249 miles NEDC) and EV400 (75 hp / 56 kW, 351 km / 218 miles NEDC). For comparison, the ET and EV460 trims of the Eado hatchback both churn out 136 PS (100 kW) and run as far as 405 km (251 miles) before recharging becomes necessary.
