Mr. Bean is selling his W124 Mercedes-Benz 500 E

Rowan Atkinson, an actor most famous for his sitcom alter ego of Mr. Bean, is impartial to the Mercedes-Benz 500 E with the W124 body style. He has owned four such cars in total, periodically selling them and then buying them back for inexplicable reasons. The 500 E you see here is yet another example.

The Mercedes rolled off the assembly lines in 1993 sporting a rare Nautic Blue paintjob and arrived in Great Britain from Japan five years ago. Despite its impressive mileage of 111,613 miles (179,625 km), it scored four points out of five on the driving condition scale. Atkinson has additionally invested £5,000 into restoring the cabin trim and wooden details. The auction sale will commence this Saturday.

Last May, the actor sold a grey saloon released in 1991 that he has bought twice – once as a new car, the other time as a used one. With more than 192,000 miles (310,000 km) under its belt and its condition carefully described as ‘average’, the car fetched only £19,758.

In February 2018, Atkinson sold yet another E 500 issued in 1993 with around 50,000 miles (80,000 km) on the odometer, cashing in a heathy £71,300.

Mercedes-Benz co-designed the 500 E with Porsche and produced it on its Zuffenhausen factory. The model comes powered by the five-liter M 119 V8 engine linked to a four-speed automatic transmission and rated at 326 hp (243 kW). Getting from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) is a matter of 5.5 seconds, and the top speed lies as high as 260 km/h (161 mph). The production run consisted of 10,500 units.
