New Toyota Yaris spinoff spotted near the Arctic Circle

Japanese car marque Toyota has begun testing its newest crossover SUV model based off the Yaris. The car should have premiered at the GIMS 2020, but the show was canceled.

The photographer says he made the spy shots not far from the Arctic Circle. According to him, one of the two development mules had a ‘jacked-up’ look and the old Yaris body and lighting. The other mule had the exterior features of the new Yaris. Having said that, both are likely just temporary designs used for chassis and drivetrain tests. The final SUV will boast its own, original appearance when it ships.

The car will be available with AWD and as a hybrid based on a 1.5-liter IC engine.

Sales in Europe will start in the spring of 2021.
