Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut underway to breaking well through 500 km/h

When Christian von Koenigsegg, CEO of Koenigsegg, unveiled the Jesko Absolut hypercar in March, he let it slip that it would forever remain the company’s fastest-going land vehicle. No numbers were given, but many wondered if this meant ‘faster than the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+’. Apparently, it did.

The Chiron Super Sport hit 490.484 km/h (300.4 mph) going in a straight line not long ago. However, in a recent interview, Koenigsegg revealed that the company actually ran a pretty close estimate of the maximum attainable speed with the Jesko Absolut. According to him, with the aerodynamic drag, engine power, transmission efficiency and other such variables put together, it came close to 532 km/h (330.6 mph).

Since then, YouTube channel Engineering Explained has conducted a detailed study using all the available parameters and came up with 533 km/h (331.2 mph).

The hypercar comes powered by a five-liter, dual-turbo V8 engine rated at 1,622 metric horsepower (1,600 U.S. horsepower, or 1,193 kilowatts). The torque stays capped at 1,500 Newton-meters (1,106 pound-feet). The unique nine-speed, seven-clutch Light Speed Transmission delivers that kind of oomph to the rear axle fitted with an electronically controlled differential. The car weighs 1,390 kg (3,065 lbs) and boasts an aerodynamic ratio as low as 0.278. The tire model used is either Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 or Cup 2 R.
