Bruce Canepa reveals a rare 800-HP Porsche 959 for sale

Ex-racing driver Bruce Canepa runs a business in the USA dedicated to the restoration and tuning of automotive classics. This rare Porsche 959 supercar with 800 horsepower under the hood is his latest finished project.

The 959 came out in the 1980s era packing numerous tech innovations, such as a polyurethane body kit or magnesium-alloy wheels. An opposite-six engine rated at 450 hp (336 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque provided the power.

Apparently, Canepa found the numbers lacking, because he fitted it with a single high-end Borg Warner turbocharger, titanium connecting rods and camshafts, and E85-friendly components. As a result, the output skyrocketed to 800 hp (596 kW) and 881 Nm (650 lb-ft).

The full restoration of the car took over 4,000 hours and included complete disassembly and reassembly, as well as replacement of numerous components with their modern counterparts. All things considered, the minimum asking price of $750,000 USD actually sounds justified.
