World’s first Nissan GT-R 50 rolls out, costs €1M

When Nissan premiered its original GT-R 50 Concept a couple of years ago, the date coincided with 50th anniversaries of coachbuilder Italdesign and the Nissan Skyline GT-R model, prompting the companies to collaborate on a special edition called ‘GT-R 50’.

The first out of the fifty planned cars is now finished and handed over to its owner, who paid north of €990,000. The company had originally intended to showcase it at the Geneva International Motor Show, but the Covid-19 pandemic changed these plans, so we are now offered a look at it online instead.

Technically, the vehicle is still a normal GT-R, but it wears a custom body that’s longer, wider and less tall than the original. The wheelbase stays the same, and customers are invited to choose from multiple available color schemes, each of them referencing a GT-R racecar from the past.

The interior greets the viewer with an opulent combination of leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber.

Nissan’s in-house tuning division, Nismo, handled the powertrain in the project, boosting the stock 3.8-liter V6 from its usual 720 hp (537 kW) to 780 hp (582 kW). This necessitated installing new turbine chargers, overhauling intake and exhaust systems, as well as making improvements in the six-speed DCT box and all-whell drive system.

The GT-R 50 rides on specially designed 21-inch wheels and Bilstein coilover-based suspension, and relies on Brembo brakes with calipers painted red for deceleration.

The remaining customers will have to wait until closer to the end of the year to receive their cars, and the rest of the shipments will be made in 2021. The company reports it still has unsold units on offer.
