Leaked: 2021 Mazda 3 goes turbo again

The turbocharged Mazda 3 MPS “hot hatch” left the assembly lines seven years ago, essentially leaving the range to make do with naturally aspirated engines. However, there are hints that things may change soon.

The leaked documentation that Mazda sent out to its authorized dealerships mentions a 2021 model year Mazda 3 that comes turbocharged in both its sedan/saloon and hatchback versions. Furthermore, it apparently also has automatic transmission and AWD in its base spec list.

It is therefore possible that the facelift of the No. 3 will be more than just, well, a facelift. Note also that the TCR racecar based on the same platform uses a turbo engine.

Mazda has not commented on the leak yet.
