3D-printed body parts underway for the McLaren 720S

1016 Industries has revealed a large-scale project it has been working on, dedicated to the improvement of the McLaren 720S’ aerodynamic performance. The company actively uses computer-based prediction models to find the optimal production methods.

According to the developer, the Computational Fluid Dynamics tech enables it to try out the various 3D printing approaches in virtual reality, determining the ones that yield the best results in the shortest time possible. “The results with respect to producing McLaren 720S parts are impressive,” said Peter Northup, founder of the tune-up shop. He added that future plans include raising the quality of the printed components above that of the parts manufactured using the more traditional methods.

Another advantage of the innovative approach comes in the ability to calibrate each custom part to seamlessly fit any car body. The first items should become available for ordering in the coming months.
