Australian automotive startup pledges to revolutionize hydrogen transports

H2X may only be a budding business, but its ambition is undeniable: by 2022, it intends to launch production of nature-friendly hydrogen-powered cars, resurrecting and bolstering the national automotive industry.

All vehicles proposed by H2X currently only exist as computer-generated 3D renderings. These include a few LCVs, a pickup truck (only partly shown), and a mid-size SUV called Snowy (the most detailed one).

According to the company, the Snowy measures 4,565 mm (15 feet) long and has a wheelbase spanning 2,780 mm (9.12 feet). It comes based on a proprietary “sandwich” platform and packs a 258-hp (192-kW) electric motor that launches it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds. Pump the fuel tank full of hydrogen (it only takes in 5 liters, or 11 lbs), and you get 650 kilometers (400 miles) of driving range.

Later on, the startup plans to open a countrywide fuel station network. Even more impressively, it intends to expand its product range in the coming years to incorporate an SUV, a pickup, small and mid-size commercial vans, a bus, a semi truck, a tractor, a train, a yacht, and more, hitting 25,000 annual production units by 2025. Naturally, just how this plays out remains to be seen at this point.
