Skoda Octavia RS gains new diesel, AWD and styling options

Four months after the launch of the Skoda Octavia RS iV Hybrid, several performance specs complement the lineup based on petrol and diesel engines.

The gas-powered Octavia RS can now be obtained with a two-liter turbo-four engine rated at 245 hp (183 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. This makes it identical to the Hybrid spec in terms of engine power, although it does lack another 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) of torque to stand completely on par with it. This version is also strictly front-wheel driven and needs 6.7 seconds to sprint to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) with the DSG transmission doing the gear switching. Opt for six-speed manual, and the sprint time rises to 6.8 seconds. Top speed lies at 250 km/h (155 mph) for both versions.

The diesel-chugging Octavia RS is the automaker’s most powerful so far, churning out 200 hp (150 kW) and up to 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). 7-speed DSG is the only gearbox available, but you can opt for AWD if you want to. The AWD diesel spec hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds and tops out at 243 km/h (151 mph).

On the outside, the new Skoda Octavia RS boasts aggressively styled bumpers, a rear spoiler, anti-fog headlamps based on advanced LED tech, black body accents, and steering with variable gear ratio. The suspension is 15mm (0.6”) lower than that of the stock Octavia, and you can pay extra for adaptive shocks. The wheels measure 18 inches across, but a larger 19-inch set is an option, too.

Inside, changes include a new multimedia system, a redesigned digital dashboard, a central airbag, carbon and Alcantara details, bucket seats, and a sports steering wheel.

The new 2021 Octavia RS should enter production in the coming September.
