Jaguar XJ launch postponed until 2021

Jaguar has pushed the launch of its all-electric XJ crossover all the way back to late 2021. Cost optimization was cited as the main reason.

The luxury automaker had originally planned to unveil the new model before the end of the current year, but the presentation date on the official website now reads, “October 2021”.

According to the schedule, the battery-powered SUV will enter production at the Castle Bromwich factory in England next year. The factory itself will reopen in August after a long, Covid-19 induced period of idleness. While not explicitly stated, it is common for such production facilities to re-launch slowly and gradually, so some time will pass before the conveyor belts rev up to their full capacity.

Jaguar, like most other brands, has to cut expenses to stay alive in the new reality the industry found itself in in 2020.
