Skoda debuts Slavia, a one-off spider car based on Scala chassis

Skoda has officially presented the Slavia, a unique concept car made by the Skoda Academy students in Mlada-Boleslav, Czech Republic.

The team of 31 students worked with a regular-issue Scala hatchback using the Skoda 1100 OHC racecar (1957 – 1960) as the main source of inspiration for the project. They stripped the Scala of its roof, three seats and three doors, giving it dual air scoops, a front splitter and a rear spoiler instead. The body received a White Crystal Blue paint interspersed with Black Magic accents. The badges and details glow in the dark thanks to a phosphorescent pigment used, and light diodes coming in the three colors of the Czech national flag illuminate the road under the car bottom.

The topless “spider” is 4,362 mm (14.31 feet) long, 1,793 mm (5.88 ft.) wide and 1,410 mm (4.63 ft.) tall with 2,649 mm (8.69 ft.) between the axles. It uses Octavia RS brakes and 20-inch Kodiaq RS wheels, and comes powered by its standard 1.5-liter turbo-four mill rated at 150 hp (112 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft). The seven-speed DSG, steering, chassis, electric and electronic systems stay stock.

A peek inside the one-off ride reveals Sparco bucket seats draped in perforated black leather that mimics carbon fiber weave on the armrests, as well as a tapestry with two lions in the back concealing a powerful 2,570-watt sound system. The new control panel located below HVAC controls can be used to fine-tune the ambient lighting.
