Lingenfelter tackles the exotic Cadillac Catera

Few remember anymore what the Cadillac Catera sedan looked like or what it was capable of. The U.S.-born sibling to the German-made Opel Omega B was in production between 1996 and 2001 and had little to show for itself. Nonetheless, Lingenfelter decided to give it some love.

The car shown here is currently up for grabs at Bring-a-Trailer, and the sales will continue until July 27. In its production guise, it packed a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder engine and a four-speed automatic transmission, sprinting 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) in about ten seconds. Naturally, the owner found the lackluster figures inadequate, so he ordered it swapped to a 5.7-liter LS6 V8 and Tremec T56.

It hadn’t been long before he changed his mind again and had it swapped to a 7.0-liter LS7 V8, complete with the original Corvette cylinder assembly and a 63mm (2.5”) exhaust system. Aside from gaining a fair dose of thrust, the exotic saloon developed a voice of authority its stock mill just did not have.

Other project highlights include new suspension and anti-sway bars, a Momo steering wheel and a nice audio system.
