Is Mercedes looking to unite the C & E Class?

It is official that the current Mercedes-Benz strategy involves optimizing the product range for maximum financial viability. This includes getting rid of exotic and niche-oriented vehicles – but also combining the C-Class and E-Class into one, according to rumors.

Allegedly, the company plans to introduce a new class called CLE in 2023 or so, which will eventually phase out both the C-Class and the E-Class. It will probably occupy the slot between the CLA and CLS 4-Door Coupe models. It will ship in RWD and AWD mild-hybrid versions based on a two-liter turbo-four engine.

As for the more affordable CLA family, Mercedes allegedly plans to expand it to incorporate Shooting Brake, Coupe and Convertible models.

The E-Class has recently received a mid-life refresh (see video), and the C-Class should change generations later this year.
