BMW X5, X1 to get all-electric versions

BMW announces that the X1 and X5 will be the next two SUVs to receive fully electric editions within the framework of the company’s total electrification strategy.

The models will be joining the family of environmentally clean cars after the iX3 (see video) and the 7 Series sedan. The production car based on the iNext Concept will follow suit in 2021.

BMW points out that both the X1 and the X5 will utilize the same powertrain as the iX3. Its specs will obviously be model-specific, and no official numbers exist at this time. The iX3 has 286 hp (210 kW) and 460 km (285 miles) of range.
