Did the new Porsche Panamera Lion just set a new North Loop record?

Porsche continues working on redesigning its Panamera lineup and complementing it with a new high-performance version called Lion. Today, rumors started flowing that the extreme liftback just set a new Nürburgring record – but the manufacturer keeps it secret so far.

Alleged witnesses saw a pre-production Panamera enter the North Loop accompanied by an observation team, timekeepers, and a camera crew. An official photoshoot was held, and a test run followed with the vehicle managing to cross the finish line in 7:11 – ten seconds faster than the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 (fastest sedan) and even faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder (fastest hybrid).

Opinions differ as to what kind of engine and powertrain the Lion comes equipped with. One theory holds that it utilizes the Turbo S E-Hybrid system boosted to 830 hp (620 kW). Others say it could use the 4.0L V8 of the Panamera Turbo massaged to deliver 750 hp (559 kW), which can be just as powerful on a body made 200 kg (440 lbs) lighter than the regular Panamera.

Porsche has refused to comment on the alleged leak yet, so our only option is to wait until the official reveal scheduled to take place in the coming months.
