Toyota starts shipping 2021 Land Cruiser Prado in Japan

Toyota has reported the production start of the facelifted Land Cruiser Prado SUV in Japan. The scope of modifications isn’t too extensive, boiling down to revised trims, new assists and a power boost for the diesel version.

The 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV diesel used to pump out 177 hp (132 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque in the old version. In the new one, it rises to 204 hp (152 kW) and 500 Nm (370 lb-ft) of torque. It has to be noted that the refreshed Fortuner and Hilux already make use of this latest diesel revision.

Another novelty arrives in the form of optional pedestrian and cyclist detection for the on-board Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 system. Traffic sign recognition and lane control are now included in the standard spec. A multimedia system with a nine-inch display and smartphone connectivity is a paid option.

Later on, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will become available on markets outside Japan.
