Hyperion Motors reveals XP-1, a hydrogen supercar with 1,000+ miles of range

Hyperion Motors has finally taken the wraps off XP-1, its hydrogen-powered vehicle that had been in development for 110 years. While still technically a prototype, the company pledges to bring it into production no later than 2022 limited to 300 units.

The developer team claims it uses NASA technology to ensure the car is cutting-edge. The monocoque cabin you can see here is manufactured from a metal compound with inclusions of titanium, carbon fiber and Kevlar. The solar panels in the fenders can rotate to absorb the most sunlight possible at any given time.

Inside, an enormous 98-inch display sits where the center tunnel usually is, and there is a dimmable glass dome at the top. The sophisticated infotainment unit supports gestures for controls, and the trim makes use of leather, titanium and carbon.

Powering the pre-production XP-1 are magnetic-electric motors, hydrogen fuel cell arrays, an ultracondenser, and a three-gear transmission. A single stop by the fuel station yields 1,015 miles (1,635 km) of range, and the car zaps to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.2 seconds before maxing out at 355 km/h (220 mph).
