Ford Bronco Plug-In Hybrid alleged specs leak online

Last year – even before the new Bronco came into the spotlight – Ford CEO Jim Hackett said the model would be receiving a hybrid version. He did not name any specifics, but the latest data leak that occurred today sheds some light on the car at last.

While not officially confirmed yet, it is claimed that the off-roader will get a part-electric version based on the EcoBoost V6 3.0 of the latest-gen Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator. The turbo engine pumps out between 350 and 400 horsepower (261 – 298 kW), and what it will be capable of in the Bronco remains unknown. What is known is that a 47hp (35kW) electric motor will assist it in much the same way as it does in the Explorer Hybrid and the upcoming F-150 Hybrid, bringing the power total to 450 hp (336 kW) or so.

The Ford Bronco Hybrid should be introduced next year and go on sale in the United States as a 2022MY car. It will eventually get a couple direct competitors in the PHEV market segment, namely the Land Rover Defender PHEV and the Jeep Wrangler 4xe.
