Audi launches e-tron S and e-tron Sportback S

Following a detailed reveal a couple of months ago, the all-electric crossover SUVs Audi e-tron S and e-tron Sportback S are now available to pre-order.

Compared to its non-S counterpart, the performance-oriented e-tron boasts a tri-engine drivetrain. Two electric motors reside on the rear axle, and a third one sits on the front axle. The third motor is the same one the e-tron 55 spec uses at the front end.

The output sums up to 503 hp (375 kW) and 973 Nm (718 lb-ft) of torque. Reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) is a matter of 4.5 seconds, and the top speed is capped at 210 km/h (130 mph). The traction battery is rated at 95 kWh and has 86 kWh of useful capacity. The e-tron S offers 364 kilometers (226 miles) of WLTP-rated range, whereas its Sportback sibling pulls slightly ahead with its 370 km (230 miles).

Only the rear motors drive both cars most of the time. The front motor only engages when maximum performance is required – such as during rapid acceleration.

The AWD system supports torque vectoring control, and the adaptive suspension boasts seven selectable operation modes. Standard trim includes 20-inch wheels, but you may opt for larger 21-inch ones (and a 22-inch set is due out at a later date).

The cabin makes use of electronically adjusted sports seats wrapped in leather and Alcantara. There are carbon fiber and aluminum inserts throughout, as well as three large displays and an optional HUD.

Showroom sales start later this fall. The Audi e-tron S starts from €91,435 in Germany, and the e-tron S Sportback is not far ahead with €93,628.
