Maserati MC20 “Lightning” EV will break horsepower limits

All electric Maseratis, including the upcoming MC20 model, will be sold under a new designation “Foglore”, which is Italian for “Lightning”. Most will land with three electric motors and AWD, and the MC20 Folgore in particular will become the new flagship with “way more than 630 hp” hitting the asphalt.

The powertrain incorporates one front-mounted electric motor and two more at the rear end. The rear duo is not synchronized with each other in any way, enabling more precise torque control.

The next-gen GranTurismo will emerge as the first Foglore vehicle capable of 800-volt charging, followed by the MC20 some time later. The latter model will also be available in a less powerful gasoline version (V6 3.0 Nettuno, 630 hp / 463 kW). The EV version will be able to zap 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.8 seconds and will only hit its speed ceiling at 310 km/h (192 mph), Maserati reports.
