All-electric Ford F-150 confirmed to double as a mobile power source

Production of the next-gen Ford F-150 has begun in Dearborn, Michigan. The company has confirmed that it would be investing $700 million into the industrial site and that a fully electric version of the truck would be made there as well.

The environmentally conscious F-150 will also be the most powerful model in its range. Specifics are scarce at this point, but Ford does mention electric motors mounted at each axle for AWD capability. This should mean more than 450 horsepower (336 kilowatts) in this new spec.

According to Group VP and President of Ford North America, Kumar Galhotra, the battery-powered F-150 will not only be a highly practical and efficient car, but also double as an emergency source of electric power.

Production will not begin until the second half of 2022 or later, the company reports.
