GM talks about its 1,000-HP unitized EV platform

General Motors has shared some details about the new modular architecture called Ultium Drive, which it plans to base its electric cars upon until 2023.

The Ultium Drive lineup encompasses five modules and three electric powertrain options, allowing customers to pick the power and efficiency combo they need. The chassis supports all kinds of drives and comes rated from 235 hp (175 kW) in the entry spec to 1,000 hp (745 kW) in the top spec.

Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brands will all utilize the new platform to produce a variety of vehicles on it, ranging from sports cars to large SUVs. The GMC Hummer EV will be the first one to hit the market, and the company is even considering a Corvette EV.

The chassis is said to have better steering response than its ICE counterparts, as well as better power and torque distribution. GM aims to have built two dozen different Ultium Drive models by the year 2023.
