EU-spec KIA Stinger ships with only one engine

The refreshed KIA Stinger lineup has made it to the Old World at last, sporting the same assortment of exterior and interior modifications as the global version (see video). Things look different on the powertrain front, though.

The European Stinger will only ship with a single-option 3.3-liter V6 engine rated at 370 hp (276 kW) and 510 Nm (376 lb-ft) of torque. This means it will not be getting any four-cylinder alternatives – whether gasoline or diesel – in its current generation.

According to Kia Europe, the harsh decision has its merits. First, the V6 Stinger has been the most popular on the EU markets so far. Second, ditching the low-end specs should elevate the status of the model. The main downside is that the already-not-s-brisk sales will likely take a hit: only 7,420 new Stingers have found owners in Europe in 2018 and 2019.

On the international market, left-hand drive Stingers support optional AWD, while all RHD variants come rear-wheel driven only. The transmission is eight-speed automatic in all versions.
