Mercedes establishes the “G” sub-brand for G-Class vehicles

The German automaker has announced the coming of a new dedicated sub-brand, G, which will embrace all future G-Class production cars and their special editions.

It will become Mercedes’ fourth sub-brand after Maybach, AMG and EQ. The reasoning behind the action is simple: the demand for G-Class cars is very steep right now, and Mercedes no longer has the production capacity to meet it. Around 35,000 G-Class SUVs found new owners last year alone.

The company also made it abundantly clear that its off-roader range is underway to full electrification in the near future. ICE cars may become discontinued as early as 2023, and the next-gen G-Class is guaranteed to be an EV.
