2021 Renault Megane escapes electrification for the time being

Renault updated its Megane hatchback and wagon last winter, and the less common sedan model follows suit now. Despite being proudly called The New Megane by the manufacturer, it is a facelift like any other.

On the outside, the newcomer rocks a different radiator grille, front bumper and LED headlights, as well as reshaped fenders. The door handles are now backlit, and the rear end sports two fake exhaust tips.

Inside, the driver's seat supports power adjustments, the digital dashboard measures 10.2 inches across, and the Easy Link infotainment system features a 9.3-inch display. In addition to the lanekeeping, the car now also has adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go support and pedestrian-aware automatic braking.

The Renault E-Tech hybrid powertrain never made it under the hood of the new Megane sedan, so it continues without electrification. The only addition is a 1.0-liter turbo three-pot rated at 115 hp (86 kW), mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The old 1.3L, 140hp gas engine and 1.5L, 115hp TDI are still available, and you can choose between six-speed manual and dual-clutch EDC for both. Front-wheel drive is your only option in any case.

Sales will start in early 2021, Renault reports.
