Bugatti reveals the Bolide, explains the number 0.67

Bugatti has taken the wraps off Bolide, its newest prototype racecar. Shortly before the reveal, the company published teaser with the number 0.67 in it: as it turns out, it corresponds to the car’s power-to-weight ratio.

Specifically, the track-focused ride weighs in at 1,240 kilograms (2,734 lbs) and uses a boosted version of the Chiron W16 engine rated at 1,850 PS (1,824 hp / 1,360 kW) and 1,850 Nm (1,364 lb-ft) of torque. The values are valid for ON 110 gasoline and translate into the abovementioned metric-horsepower-to-kilogram ratio of 0.67.

The engineer team claims the car exerts up to 1,800 kg (3,968 lbs) of downforce at the rear end and up to 800 kg (1,764 lbs) at the front. Both values are valid for the movement speed of 320 km/h (199 mph). Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 2.1 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) – another 4.3 seconds, and 400 km/h (248 mph) – another 12 seconds. Just ten seconds later, the car will smash through the 500 km/h (310 mph) barrier.

One of the racer’s more intriguing aerodynamic features is the roof scoop that can variate between smooth and dotted depending on the current acceleration.
