Mazda unveils the updated Skyactiv-X engine
03-11-2020 11:30

Sales of the next-gen Mazda 3 (see video) with the new 2.0-liter Skyactiv-X engine began in the end of 2019, and now, the innovative mill receives a handful of improvements.
The main feature of the update is the new ignition system called SPCCI. The gasoline essentially self-ignites when compressed, just like diesel fuel does in diesel engines.
The power output also enjoys a moderate boost from 180 to 190 PS (from 132 to 140 kW, respectively). The torque goes from 224 to 240 Newton-meters (165 – 177 lb-ft).
As a mild hybrid, the 2021 Mazda 3 uses its Skyactiv-X in conjunction with a 6.5-PS (4.8-kW) electric motor and a tiny lithium-ion battery.
