Toyota announces an autonomous refuel/recharge vehicle

The Japanese corporation is seriously considering making a self-driving car capable of automatically extending the mileage of both ICE and electric cars.

Based on the sketches, the operating principle is quite simple and mimics that of airplane mid-air refueling (watch the video for a brief example).

Toyota expects its autonomous vehicles to automatically detect cars that need extra gas or electric power using their inbuilt GPS tracking device. The rest of the concept prompts more questions than it gives answers. For instance, it is unknown whether the cars will need to find a parking spot to refuel or not. It is also undecided whether any action from the driver will be necessary to initiate or assist the fueling/charging process.
