Video: Ford MUDstang climbing hill after hill

If you were invited to a hill climb race, what kind of car would you pick for the job? Definitely not a muscle car like the Ford Mustang, right? Well, color us surprised: someone actually did just that.

The bizarre ride shown here is the inimitable MUDstang, and it does everything to justify that name. Note especially the longer axles fitted with wide rims and tires that lie completely outside of their arches. Why the ride height remains near-standard is a good question, however.

The driver of the MUDstang built it for serious competition, so he fitted it with a 5.0-liter Coyote Mk2 V8 heavily tuned to slam the wheels with 1,200 HP (895 kW). Dual turbochargers 67 millimeters (2.6”) in diameter make the bestial power possible, while a straight-through exhaust system that spits smoke out of the hood ensures some spectacular special effects while driving.

The car has drawn plenty of criticism to itself since going live, for many obvious reasons. But even so, we can’t help but find it a little bit charming. Please watch both videos and share your opinion!
