Daihatsu sheds light on its five concepts

Daihatsu Motor Company scheduled five new concept cars for the Tokyo Auto Salon 2021, and now, we may finally throw a glimpse at these one-off rides based on Copen, Hijet, Taft, and Thor models.

The Copen is a spyder car that no longer has a roof of any kind, weighs 100 kg (220 lbs) less than before and boasts an enormous front grille contrasting with a tiny windshield. The trunk lid is different, Volk Racing wheels come wrapped in low-profile tires, and there are Bride bucket seats inside.

The Hijet Jumbo unexpectedly became a Camper Van for wilderness excursions. It sports LED headlights, an expedition rack, a two-tone paintjob (light blue and cream), an external audio set, and a tent that you can easily turn into a canopy.

Another Hijet Jumbo spinoff comes in the shape of Sporta, a pickup for the racetrack with its roof swan off and suspension slammed into the ground. The tires measure 165/50 R15, the exhaust system culminates in three tips, and there is a Momo steering wheel inside. Things stay stock under the hood.

ext down the list is a Daihatsu Taft remodeled into an off-roader called Crossfield. Additions include an expedition rack, extra ride height, new shocks and springs, a bull bar, taillights concealed behind protective bars, tires with elaborate off-road grips, and an electric winch capable of towing two tonnes of weight (2,200 lbs).

Rounding things off is a Thor van dressed out in a new body kit.

The Tokyo Auto Salon 2021, which is an annual show held in January and dedicated to aftermarket products and tuning, takes place online this year due to the ongoing pandemic.
