Video: Mercedes-AMG S 63e lapping up the ‘Ring

After premiering the new S-Class and its stretched Maybach version in September 2020, Mercedes only has the sporty AMG version to show us before the launch. In the meantime, a disguised example was spotted testing at the Nürburgring.

In its AMG guise, the sedan is expected to keep its 4.0-liter V8 TT main engine while gaining an electric motor rated at 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW). The resulting plug-in hybrid system will output 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW), a robust increase over the 612 PS (603 hp / 450 kW) from before. All-electric range remains to be announced.

The top-of-the-line S 73e spec will follow the S 63e. It is expected to trade its V12 rated at 630 PS (621 hp / 463 kW) for the PHEV powertrain mentioned above, although boosted to 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW).
