Could this be the new Audi Horch promised a while ago?

We’ve already seen disguised Audi A8 and S8 running road tests, but this elongated A8 prototype looks suspiciously like the Horch flagship saloon we were promised back in 2019.

The offending detail is a small bit of disguise covering an area just above the tailgate handle. Older test vehicles made do without this patch, so perhaps this is where the letter “H” stands.

Rumors that Audi was considering reviving the legendary sub-brand Horch first emerged three years ago, and the company officially confirmed these intentions at a shareholders’ meeting in spring 2019.

While Mercedes-Maybach S-Class vehicles usually have larger dimensions than even the standard S-Class LWB, the Audi A8 L Horch looks identical in size to the regular, pre-facelift A8 L (watch the video for a comparison). Perhaps Audi will prioritize interior luxury and features over sheer size. That, and the saloon may become its last car in history to come powered by a six-liter W12 engine.
