Defender top spec bows with a V8, 525 PS

After changing generations a year and a half ago, the Land Rover Defender has only shipped with four and six cylinders so far. A V8 version finally debuts today, so let us have a good look at it.

The new engine is a 5.0-liter supercharged mill rated at 525 PS (518 hp / 386 kW) and 625 Nm (461 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission carries the momentum to all four wheels courtesy of an improved AWD system with a rear-axle differential.

Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 5.2 seconds, and the top speed lies at 240 km/h (149 miles per hour), making the newest Defender the fastest and most powerful in history.

Other notable changes include suspension tweaks, a different exhaust system, new 22-inch wheels, and contrast coloring on the roof, hood and tailgate.
