Porsche says new hypercars aren’t coming until 2025 or so

Speaking in a recent interview, Porsche CEO Oliver Blum said a successor to the 918 Spyder model (depicted here) would only be coming to be market in a few years’ time, as the company is in no hurry to develop a new hypercar.

According to him, Porsche sees the appeal in making such a vehicle, but it will have to wait for its turn. Interestingly enough, speaking at the Geneva International Motor Show two years ago, Blum named a different reason for the delay. He said that EV traction batteries were not technologically advanced enough yet to warrant the development.

Now that Porsche is firmly involved in the electrification process, it is actually aiming to hit new sales and revenue highs this year. Designing an expensive supercar is not going to facilitate either goal, of course, so a logical decision would be to postpone it.

It remains to be seen whether the next-gen Porsche supercar goes part or fully electric. The last Porsche 918 Spyder rolled off the lines six years ago, and the entire batch had been already sold out by 2014.
