Ford teases BlueCruise autopilot tech for F-150, Mustang Mach-E

In its latest video, Ford demonstrates an innovative self-driving system called BlueCruise, which it plans to begin offering with its F-150 and Mach-E models later this year.

The system requires the Co-Pilot360 driver aid package to be preinstalled. Drivers are allowed to let go of the steering wheel with the mode activated, but only on roads explicitly marked as supported by the feature. The total length of such roads in the United States amounts to roughly 100,000 miles (160,000 kilometers).

A dashboard message comes up whenever you enter a ‘hands-free’ area. As usual with this kind of technology, drivers are solely responsible for quickly taking over control if things go wrong. A dedicated infrared camera will be monitoring the driver’s attention at all times.

F-150 owners who already have the Co-Pilot360 pack will need to pay $600 to get the self-driving system through an over-the-air update. Some Mustang Mach-E trim levels will have it included as a standard feature.
