5th-gen Range Rover spied at the ‘Ring

A camo-wrapped next-generation Range Rover test vehicle has been photographed at the North Loop of the Nürburgring.

The SUV is set to arrive based on a unitized platform known as the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA). It will feature a longitudinally mounted engine and should be faster and more fuel-efficient thanks to a reduction in mass.

Things should become more interesting on the tech front as well: Land Rover promises to launch hybrid versions first and then follow up with an all-electric variant. The latter will pack a battery larger than 100 kWh, which should translate into more than 480 kilometers (300 miles) of range on a charge.

It is also expected that the next-gen Range Rover will offer more luxury options to make it competitive against the likes of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga.

The hybrid version should debut sometime later this year, while the BEV should come in 2022. Production will take place in Solihull, England, where Land Rover has put around £500,000,000 into upgrading its factory.
