Geely Xingyue L debuts with Volvo power, semi-autonomous tech

Geely’s booth at the Shanghai show displays this luxury crossover SUV that will soon go on sale in China as the Xingyue L.

The car has a new radiator grille with vertical bars and benefits from LED Matrix lights at both ends. Each headlight is composed of 126 individual LEDs and each brake light from 176.

The inside space is dominated by a meter-wide 1920x720p display. Ambient lighting supports 72 hues, and there is a 10-channel Bose audio system. Elsewhere, the car packs plenty of cameras and sensors, supports 5G, has an advanced self-parking feature, and updates its software over the air.

From the technological point of view, the Xingyue L utilizes the same CMA platform as the Geely Xingyue/Tugella, the Volvo 40 series, the Polestar 2 EV, and all Lynk & Co cars released to date.

Power is provided by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder available in two variants: 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 238 PS (235 hp / 175 kW). The torque amounts to 325 Nm (240 lb-ft) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft), respectively. The former spec needs 7.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph), while the latter needs 7.7 seconds. In addition to the previously available Aisin eight-speed automatic, customers now have the option to go for an in-house designed seven-speed DCT.

A Borg Warner coupling on the rear axle grants the car on-demand AWD functionality, and drivers can choose from such drive modes as Eco, Normal, Offroad, Sport, and Snow.

Sales in China should begin soon, and an international version of the car is set for premiere later on.
