The Mercedes-Benz EQT Concept is a glorified Renault Kangoo

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the EQT Concept, a compact-sized van heralding the coming of a new generation of light commercial vehicles. When the prototype finally reaches production, it will be available in all-electric and ICE versions, as well as commercial and passenger variants.

The premieres will take place in 2021 and 2022, although there are no further specifics at this point. The EV lineup will hit the showrooms under the name ‘EQT’. The ICE-based LCV will be called ‘Citan’, and the ICE-powered passenger van ‘T-Class’.

If you look closely, however, you will recognize the long-wheelbase version of the Renault Kangoo in the EQT Concept. Of course, the styling is more in line with the rest of the EQ family – look at the concealed door handles, an illuminated fake grille, LED lights all around, and 21-inch, aerodynamically shaped wheels.

The interior also does its best to evoke Kangoo vibes. The dashboard in particular looks the same, as do the HVAC controls, the greenhouse and the location of the gear lever. The multimedia system is new, though, as are the door panels and the fascia trim.

Technical specifications remain to be announced. Rumor has it that the EQT will go on sale packing a single electric motor rated at 102 PS (100 hp / 75 kW). A 45-kWh battery will allegedly grant it up to 265 kilometers (165 miles) of range.
