Every Little Bit Helps: MG launches Cyberster crowdfunding campaign

MG, a once British car marque now controlled by Chinese SAIC Group, revealed its Cyberster Concept at the recent Auto Shanghai 2021 show without any intention to see it through to production. Now, it looks like the car could yet reach the market – possibly thanks to you.

SAIC has recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to help the Cyberster become a reality. The standard pledge amount was 1,000 CNY, or around $150. Since the prototype car was extremely popular at the show, interested buyers have already pledged around 5 million CNY, or $780,000 to make it real.

The sum collected thus far is not nearly enough to cover all the expenses associated with the production, but the campaign goes on. Furthermore, the manufacturer said the number of people interested in the model exceeded all expectations, so the production is only a matter of time now.

The MG Cyberster Concept resembles many British sports car icons of the 20th century. It had originally been created only to promote the automotive corporation’s new electric car brand Cyber, which will soon release its first e-SUV.

The show car was said to accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in three seconds flat and have 800 km (500 miles) of range. None of these parameters were supported by actual measurements, so the final production car may end up being highly different.
