Meet the Solterra, Subaru’s first EV between Heaven and Earth
Subaru has unveiled its first fully electric car, a C-class crossover SUV named the Solterra after Latin words ‘sol’ for the Sun and ‘terra’ for the Earth. Availability is expected in multiple countries in mid-2022.
The SUV was co-designed with Toyota and uses its e-TNGA tech platform, also known as the e-Subaru Global Platform. Based on the images, it draws inspiration from the Toyota bZ4X Concept that debuted at the Auto Shanghai show this April (see video). In fact, only the rear fascia is somewhat different.
Technical specifications remain a mystery, but reports are coming in that Subaru intends to sell the SUV with dual electric motors jointly rated at 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) or more, as well as a battery sufficient for 500 kilometers (310 miles) of range.
