This Volvo 850 T-5R Estate Cream Yellow could be yours for €16k

An unusual estate/wagon is up for grabs right now in the Netherlands. Called the Volvo 850 T-5R Estate, the family hauler rocks a Cream Yellow paintjob and is expected to go for €16,000 - €21,000.

The special edition was first announced 26 years ago and had originally been planned for a market release of just 2,500 units. High demand convinced Volvo to produce 6,964 units in total, including 2,537 Cream Yellow ones.

The car is essentially a 850 Turbo co-designed with Porsche. The German sports automaker tuned its engine, transmission and suspension for optimum performance, landing the 2.3-liter five-pot with a new Bosch ECU and 240 PS (237 hp / 176 kW). Manual transmission enabled the car to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in 6.9 seconds, while automatic managed the same in 7.4 seconds.

This particular example has around 350,000 kilometers (217,480 miles) under its belt and retains its stock interior upholstery of leather, Alcantara and natural wood accents. The body rocks a fresh paint coat, and the side airbags inside – a first for the industry – continue to be present.

The 850 R, a car with a new manual gearbox, differential and an improved engine, ultimately succeeded the 850 T-5R. Its engine received a new exhaust manifold, intercooler and supercharger. As a result, the output rose to 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, the standard sprint time went down to 6.7 seconds, and the top speed amounted to 255 km/h (158 miles per hour).
