21 EVs get real-life range measurements in Norway

A test team in Norway put 21 electric cars to a range test to see how well their manufacturer-stated driving ranges corresponded to reality. In the end, most showed higher endurance than claimed; a few failed to meet the numbers.

The test conditions were the same for everyone: once fully charged, the cars went down the same road at the same speed, keeping it under 110 km/h (68 mph) at all times, until their batteries ran out.

The BMW iX3 came out the clear winner with 556.2 kilometers (345.6 miles) on the counter – 20%, or 106 km, or 66 miles more than the claimed range for the model. The Tesla Model 3 made 654.9 km (406.9 miles) instead of the stated 614 km (381 mi), and the Mustang Mach-E RWD exceeded the numbers slightly with 617.9 km (383.9 mi) instead of 610 km (379 mi).

The Polestar 2, Citroen e-C4 and Xpeng G3 represented the tailing trio, falling 3, 5, and 12 kilometers short of their promised ranges, respectively (2, 3.1 and 7.5 miles).

Overall, the real-life range turned out 6% above the figure stated in the manual.
