Mercedes-Benz EQS has 4WS, but you have to pay to unlock it

The Mercedes-Benz EQS may be a new car Mercedes built from scratch as far as the chassis and tech go, but it still shares a fair bit with its ICE-powered cousin, the S-Class.

Four-wheel steering is one of the features the duo has in common. By default, the turning angle maxes out at just 4.5 degrees, but you will soon be able to subscribe to a paid option and get 10 degrees. Once paid for, the feature will be installed automatically as an over-the-air update.

You can also pay for a permanent unlock. In Germany, annual subscription will cost €489, but those who opt for a three-year plan will save €300 (total cost: €1,169). All-around view cameras are required for the activation.

The EQS will hit the showrooms across Europe in August in two modifications rated at 333 PS (328 hp / 245 kW) and 524 PS (517 hp / 385 kW).
